A Long Walk to Water: Based on a True Story

A Long Walk to Water: Based on a True Story - Linda Sue Park I read this in the same weekend I read Dragon Chica by Mai-Lee Chai. The two stories had a vaguely similar storyline - the tribulations of a child or young adult existing through and surviving after being caught up in a war.
This book was roughly the third of the length of the other book and yet it was so much more enveloping. Perhaps the sparse storytelling, the lack of description, the quick-then-done references to emotion helped portray Salvi's journey, the frustration and the hope he felt for years. In addition, another story emerged at the beginning of each chapter so that two stories came together in very few pages.
